When you look in the mirror are you happy with the reflection staring back or do you analyze each and every wrinkle, age spot and every other mark that never used to be there? You’re not alone. I do that too.
Every. flippin’. day.
In our quest to maintain our youthful appearance, some go to extremes (like surgery/botox/fillers) while the rest of us opt to reverse all signs of aging using more natural methods and products..
Did you know that you can find the most powerful anti aging ingredients right in your own kitchen? In this article, I’m going to share 5 of the best ones I’ve found and give you little super simple recipes so you can try them today.
5 POWERFUL ALL NATURAL INGREDIENTS FOR AN AWESOME ANTI-AGING MASK
1. Rice water/ground rice
If you don’t already have rice in your kitchen go get some, like right now. Any rice will do. Here are a few of the amazing benefits of rice for your skin:
- Age spot treatment
- Acne treatment
- Dry skin
- Facial cleanser
- Anti aging properties (wrinkle treatment)
So what makes rice water so great? Rice water is rich in many nutrients including protein and has been known to increase the collagen in your skin.
How to use and make rice water
It’s simple enough. Rinse the rice thoroughly and drain. Use up to 4 times the amount of rice to water, bring to a boil and then remove from heat. Drain all the water into a container and voila! Keep it in the fridge until you are ready to use it. Unlike the rice we will use in the anti aging face mask, rice water can be used as a toner!
2. Turmeric
Don’t have any of that either? Go buy some. Turmeric is a power house spice used for centuries for so many ailments, not just your skin (and not just for cooking food either!).
Turmeric is beyond amazing for lightening dark (age) spots and dark circles under your eyes. It contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties as well. You’ll only need a teaspoon for a mask that should last you a few days (mask recipe below).
3. Coffee
I know you have coffee in your house and if you don’t we can’t be friends! Check out some of the benefits of coffee for your skin:
- Rich in antioxidants
- Promotes cell regrowth
- Maintains collagen (improved skin elasticity)
- Promotes blood circulation
Not only that, it smells like heaven on your face!
4. Honey
Yum. Aside from the fact that honey is yummy to eat it’s amazing for the skin. Honey is a fantastic healer, not just for when you are feeling unwell (or have a sore throat) but also for your skin.
It has anticeptic and antibacterial properties making this yummy stuff great for any condition.
It’s great for oily and acne prone skin and has wonderful humectant properties meaning, it keeps your skin hydrated.
5. Yogurt
Often overlooked as something to put on your face, yogurt is a powerhouse addition to any anti aging face mask.
Yogurt naturally has calcium and colostrum (this helps hydrate the skin) and it’s also rich in Vitamin B and riboflavin. You really can’t go wrong by slathering some of this on your skin!
Anti aging face mask recipe
After scouring Youtube for recipes and the internet, this is the anti aging mask I came up with and it’s amazing. Please do try it and let me know how it works for you!
You can check out this fun video below from my new fave channel Women Blazing Trails, a channel made especially for women over 50. Iva discusses how to use the mask, what she put in hers and her results after a week. (strong language warning)
For this anti aging mask you will first need to blend rice into a fine powder and blend the coffee as well, as fine as you can get it. You want some exfoliation action but not too gritty.
Ingredients:
- 2 teaspoons fine blended rice (dry)
- 1 teaspoon fine blended coffee (dry)
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon of honey
- 2 teaspoons of yogurt
Directions:
- Mix the rice and coffee together and add 2-3 tablespoons of boiling water to them. Mix these two well. You want it creamyish (you will have to adjust all ingredients to form a nice runny like paste)
- Then add the turmeric, honey and yogurt. Mix these all well together until you have a nice consistency that can be applied to your face.
- Apply this mask on your entire face, neck and décolleté if you wish and let sit for up to 20 minutes. It will dry and feel hard.
- Rinse off well with warm water. I usually follow this up with a light oil (flaxseed, grape-seed, coconut, etc-whichever is best for your skin type) and do some nice face massages for up to a minute.
- Wipe this off with a warm cloth and then apply your fave moisturizer. I like to apply pure aloe vera gel to my skin right after and just leave it on.
Note: It’s necessary to follow up with light oil and wipe off as turmeric will def leave a hint of yellow on your face. You can also use a cloth dipped in milk to wipe off excess turmeric. Your choice!
How many times a week to use this mask
I used it for 7 days straight in a row and then after my first week, applied it every two days. You should see results after a week.
You can also add aloe vera gel to the mask as well. There are so many variations and ingredients you can put in an anti aging mask but so far, these ones are my favourite. Experiment with other ingredients and drop your recipe and results down below!
Here’s to aging gracefully!
