Fun Accessories For Grey Hair

When I was younger, I used to change my hair colour all the time. I got bored easily and would often have a spurt of spontaneity. It was fun to choose a new shade and experiment. Now that I have transitioned to grey, when I get that itch, I use accessories to add some spice and stop me from going back to dyeing my hair.

It’s hard, believe me. Especially when I see someone in a grocery store line with some fantastic auburn colour or beautiful highlights. If you catch yourself re-thinking about colouring, try some of these fun accessories for grey hair.

Let's face it. Sometimes transitioning to grey hair can be boring. Don't be tempted to start dyeing again! Why not switch it up with these fun accessories for grey hair?

Extensions

I use to have extensions that matched my hair colour when I was regularly dyeing. I used them for special occasions or when I wanted to feel luxurious. Just because you have decided to go grey, doesn’t mean you can’t have extensions anymore. But you can’t just buy off the rack either.

If you want to get extensions that look natural, I suggest you go to a hair/wig outlet store and not buy online. The staff at the store will be able to help you choose the closest match to your hair that still has pigment.

Then take those extensions to a reputable hair salon and get them to dye the extensions to get an exact match for your hair. Be sure to have them put the extensions in your hair and style and cut them too. If you do that, they will look as natural as possible when you have them in.

Your hairdresser can also advise you on how to put the hair extensions in as well. That is especially useful if you have never used hair extensions before.

Or, if you just want a fun splash of colour, try out these pink extensions. You could put just one in like a highlight, or put them all in for a really dramatic effect.

Ponies & buns

If real hair extensions are not in your budget, you can still have fun with hair pieces. I have this ponytail and this bun. They are perfect for non wash days or in really hot weather when I want my hair up and off my face. The pony is a jaw clip and the bun is a scrunchie so they are really easy to put in and take out whenever the fancy strikes you.

Wigs

You can have your old colour back without having to dye your hair! Wigs are a great option. Lots of people, especially celebrities, wear wigs and you probably don’t even know it. Wigs are also great if you are still transitioning and can’t stand the demarcation line.

And believe it or not, wearing a wig protects your real hair. If you have frizzy grey hair or are having trouble growing your hair, why not give your hair a break from over-processing. Wearing a wig will help grow your hair stronger and longer!

Scarves, headbands & clips

One super fun way to add colour and dimension to your grey hair is to add scarves, headbands and clips. And they are also great when you are transitioning to grey hair too as they help camouflage your new growth.

I especially love anything with rhinestones or the variety word pack barettes because you get to customize your accessories to your mood that day or feature your personality. Rock on girl!

Sparkle

I personally feel like my hair could use some shine and shimmer sometimes. Especially if I am at an event that I know pictures will be taken. My grey hair always looks so dull in images.

There are several ways you can add some sparkle. There are sprays, gels, tinsel and glitter. Each one has a different effect and level of drama. You can dress your hair up for an evening event, or just add some pixie dust for your date night. Try them all to find the ones you like best.

Going grey doesn’t have to mean boring. Try some of these fun accessories for grey hair to bring out your personality and highlight your gorgeous silver locks!
