Walls

Paint your walls in colours that make you feel like you’re standing on the beach, breathing in the sea air. Use blues that remind you of the sky or the ocean, and beige like the sand. If you have trouble picking the right colours, you can always go with white. Pure white looks great with this palette, for a nice clean, airy feel. Plus, it is so easy to swap out to another style if you get bored and want to change the look of your home You just exchange out the decor and voila! A whole new look without much fuss.

If youʼre bold, you can even opt for wallpaper with texture or a fun nautical theme like these:

Use wallpaper for an accent wall or go full coastal by doing the whole room. Just remember that less is always more. If you go whole hog with coastal on the walls, use less decor and wall art so that you don’t overwhelm the space and thus lose the peaceful atmosphere you were looking for. You want your rooms to feel open, airy and light.

Furniture

For furniture styles that really bring out that beach style, you can combine light-coloured wood, white, glass and rattan. You don’t need a lot of pieces either. The key is to leave lots of visual floor space. Don’t overcrowd your pieces and don’t block the flow from room to room.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

Wall Art

Images are one of the best ways to bring those beach vibes into clear focus. If you have pictures you love from your own beach trips, you can frame and display them for a personal touch. Or hang a few beach-themed prints or signs like these:

Decor

You can have a lot of fun accenting your home with beach house decor. The options are endless! You can incorporate anchors, rope, brass, and coral into everything from wall hooks to mirrors to tabletop decor to lighting. And why not pull out all of those shells and souvenirs collected from your beach holidays? Don’t let those memories collect dust! Use jars to hold your collections or hang them with hooks or in frames.

Here are some ideas to inspire your imagination:

Soft lines

Soft lines are my favourite way to bring the beach home! Soft lines include bedding, towels, throw rugs, pillows, and lampshades. Decorating with soft lines is fantastic because it’s so easy to change things up whenever you want. You can mix and match in your colour palette and let your personal beach style shine through with pretty soft line items like these:

Decorating in beach house style is a fun way to always feel like you’re on vacation. And it’s easy to put together – all you need are the right colours and decor items. Just remember that less is more, and be careful not to go, well, overboard! You donʼt want your home to look more like a tourist shop than a home. Be mindful not to overfill your walls or cover every piece of furniture with an excessive amount of throw pillows. Add only the decor items that speak to your heart, and make you feel like your toes are in the sand!

I have a beach front home in PEI that we rent to others during the summer months. Decorating can be challenging as tastes differ and it’s a high end rental. People expect some hints of nautical decor so when I decorated the house I had to remember, it’s all about invoking the feeling because it can go kitschy fast.

Very true. I agree! I wish I could visit. I always wanted to see PEI. I have a few friends that have retired there. I’m in Ontario and can’t wait for provincial borders to open.
